Clinical Skills Practice Zones (CPZ’s)

In addition to our Clinical Skills Lab and Simulation facility, we have established 2 x Clinical Skills Practice Zones.

These are located in the Southport Clinical Education Centre and are fully equipped to support solo, peer-observed and formally observed practice of 6 core clinical skills procedural competencies.

Each of the CPZ’s houses 3 skills stations each, with fully stocked trollies and Learning Resource Folders relating to the procedure you are opting to practice.

Supporting Quality Improvement & Assurance

You will also find clip boards above each practice area stocked with Skills Log sheets. We ask that you record your session, including notes reflecting upon the practice undertaken, Observer notes (where applicable) and a brief stock audit for you to confirm what you’ve used.

The completed skills log sheets must be passed to the medical education team for review and inclusion in our central records for resource management purposes.
Supporting Learner Development

The CPZ’s are available for drop-in practice or you may opt to book in advance to ensure you have access when you need it.  The Skills Log document we ask you to complete is not only important for our own internal service and stock audit purposes but it may also be recorded on your Learner record.

The completed skills log sheets must  be passed to the medical education team for review and inclusion in our central records for updating individual learner journeys.
Supporting Educator Development
 
If you are a trainee further along your career pathway, completion of the Skills Log when you peer-observe a junior colleague undertaking further practice will support your record of development as an Educator. You may also request to have these 1:1 or small group teaching sessions formally observed by a senior colleague to further support your development record.

The completed skills log sheets must be passed to the medical education team for review and inclusion in our central records for Educator Development.
