The Seed Library
What is a seed library?
Seed libraries are places where people borrow seeds for gardening, which in turn helps promote seed diversity and local food production.
By trialling a seed library at Hanley Library, staff can borrow and plant seeds in either their personal garden or in indoor containers.
We currently stock flower, vegetable, and herb seeds for anyone at Southport and Ormskirk to borrow, grow and donate.

- Greening the business case - This guidance sets out how estates and facilities staff can support the business case for investing in carbon reduction measures, and why this is critical for all NHS organisations.
- Net Zero travel and transport strategy - This strategy describes the interventions and modelling underpinning the commitments that the NHS will have fully decarbonised its fleet by 2035, with its ambulances following in 2040, walking through each of the major components of the NHS fleet and outlining the benefits to patients and staff.
- NHS estates sustainability careers – recruitment and career pathways guidance. Guidance for employers recruiting to NHS estates sustainability and net zero roles, and for existing NHS staff and potential candidates. Information here includes the skills, experience and qualifications needed to work within the NHS estates and facilities sustainability workforce.
- NHS clinical waste strategy - This clinical waste strategy has been created to support NHS providers in making the necessary step change in waste management practices. It is part of a suite of documents including the HTM 07-01 and the NHS waste planning tool, developed to help set the direction, trajectory, and speed of change necessary to reach the NHS target of net zero for direct carbon emissions by 2040, and net zero for indirect carbon emissions by 2045, and to ensure the NHS is using its resources effectively.
- NHS Net Zero Building Standard - The NHS Net Zero Building Standard provides technical guidance to support the development of sustainable, resilient, and energy efficient buildings that meet the needs of patients now and in the future. The Standard will apply to all investments in new buildings and upgrades to existing facilities that are subject to HM Treasury business case approval process and are at pre-strategic outline business case approval stage from 1 October 2023 onwards.
