Oxford Medical Simulation (OMS) is now available on all PCs at the Hanley Library, Southport Hospital

OMS is a simulation of specific patient-doctor scenarios for trainees, followed by a guided self-reflection, followed by data and analytics reviewing how the trainee deals with the scenario that they have selected. The simulations are very detailed and involve very thorough detailing of specific patients, interaction with interdisciplinary staff, the administration of medicines and carrying out tests (oxygen levels, breathing etc). It is fun to use which is a major advantage, offering an alternative way to teach using self-exploration.
There are 10 scenarios available to you, each with individual cases involving a range of medical conditions and scenarios.
The simulations allow the opportunity to:
The software is also available to use at home on your own computers
The scenarios can be screen shot and put in your portfolio as they count towards trainees 45-60 hours CPD.
There are 10 scenarios available to you, each with individual cases involving a range of medical conditions and scenarios.
The simulations allow the opportunity to:
- Participate in evidence-based, highly-realistic simulation with fully interactive, acutely unwell patients
- Treat patients as they would in real life, as well as assessing, managing and interacting with their interdisciplinary team
- Deal with patients who would, through AI-driven patient behaviour, react with adaptive conversation in a realistic manner
- Receive feedback and performance metrics almost immediately with a guided self-reflective debrief to see which areas good at/strengths and weaknesses outlined.
- Opportunity to repeat scenarios after receiving feedback
