You can join the library by filling in our online membership form or by picking up a form at either library and handing to the library staff. Once you have filled in a form you will be able to use the 24 hour library facilities, including PCs, study space and wifi at both sites, borrow books and access online resources with an OpenAthens account (more below).
When you register with the library, we will set up an OpenAthens account for you. An OpenAthens account is your gateway to all our online resources and you will be asked for your OpenAthens username and password when accessing any of our resources. If your placement Trust changes, you will be able to transfer your OpenAthens account to your new Trust.
We have a range of up-to-date recommended reading resources from the MBChB Reading List across our Southport and Ormskirk libraries and online (requires OpenAthens password). You can browse and search for specific titles on our library catalogue. You can loan books from either of our libraries and choose to collect from the Hanley Library, Southport Hospital or the Sanderson Library Resource Room at Ormskirk Hospital and the books will be delivered to your chosen library.
You can access the complete series of Oxford Handbooks online with your OpenAthens username and password. 'Sign in via your institution' and select NHS in England before signing in with your OpenAthens username and password. Titles include Oxford Handbook of Clinical Specialties and Oxford Handbook for the Foundation Programme.
Dynamed is a clinical reference tool created by physicians for physicians and other health care professionals for use at the point-of-care. Dynamed provides evidence based summaries for more than 3,200 topics. It is accessible with an OpenAthens username and password and is also available as an app for on the App Store and Google Play.
